River Oaks

WHERE WE STARTED:

Large, dated bedroom with 8ft popcorn ceilings, no-longer-white paint, 40-yr old furniture.

WHERE WE WANTED TO GO:

The goal was an inviting and comfortable space that left few surfaces for clutter. The clients wanted classic luxury that would stand the test of time.

WHERE WE ENDED UP:

We weren't going to rip out the ceilings, so we decided to make them appear higher by employing a few tricks. We removed the popcorn and the low-hanging, lighted ceiling fans. We added some vertical moulding, can lights, and a single flush mount fan to lift the eyes and (by perception) the ceiling, a little higher. We also added a tall four-poster bed (drawing the eyes UP) and set some drapes almost at the ceiling line.

A mix of new and antique furniture, color saturation, and personal items from the clients' travel resulted in a curated space that feels cohesive without being matchy. A few integrated  conveniences include retro-fitting a pair of antique nightstands with device chargers, and adding individually wired sconces with separate hidden switches on each side of the bed.
